Isabel is a Christian woman who lives in an indigenous community tucked away in the far south of Mexico. Her heart language is Tzotzil—a lesser-known dialect spoken by less than 1% of Mexico’s population.

Now in her later years, Isabel lives alone. Her children are grown—some have moved to the United States, others live in a nearby city. Though she loves them deeply, they rarely visit.

Isabel never had the opportunity to learn to read or write. Her illiteracy was a barrier that stopped her from being able to personally study God’s Word. For many years, the Bible felt distant and inaccessible—written in words she couldn’t read, in a language that wasn’t her own.

But recently, something changed.

Isabel received an audio Bible in Tzotzil. Her eyes lit up as she listened—really listened—for the first time. “I thank God for the blessing of hearing the Bible in my language,” she says. “I will not feel so alone because I will be able to have fellowship with God.”
