Faith Under Fire: The Growing Persecution of Christians in Northern Africa

Christian persecution in northern Africa has reached alarming levels. For more than 38 years, Pastor Falade and his wife have faithfully served the Lord in a country in northern Africa, witnessing the rapid growth of the church, particularly since the 1990s. However, within the last decade, religious freedom took a devastating turn as believers began facing severe opposition from authorities.

The persecution has been relentless. 55 churches have been forcibly shut down.

Additionally, Christian leaders have been arrested, interrogated, and sentenced to prison for their faith. To date, 58 believers have been given prison terms ranging from two months to five years.

Christian Leaders Imprisoned for Their Faith

  • Pastor Falade was sentenced to two years in prison and is still appealing his case.
  • Brother Kalu has already served 31 months of a five-year sentence for his faith.
  • Brother Zivai was involved in producing Christian videos and testimonies for social media. He was imprisoned for two months after authorities raided his studio, confiscating his laptop and phone. It was a very difficult time for Zivai and his family, sending them into debt. Though released, Zivai still faces a suspended six-month sentence.
  • Pastor Olowe and four church elders were sentenced to three years in prison and face heavy fines.
  • Brother Nenge was also involved in producing Christian social media content. He was heavily interrogated and sentenced to 18 months in prison, with six months suspended. He continues to appeal.

The Urgent Need for Prayer and Advocacy

Persecution in northern Africa is not an isolated incident—it is a growing crisis. Believers are being harassed, detained, and falsely accused for simply practicing their faith. Even routine travel has become a risk, with Christian leaders facing intense scrutiny and harassment at airports.

Yet despite the trials, their faith remains unshaken. They hold onto the truth that God is sovereign and still on the throne.

But they cannot stand alone.

Act Now: Stand with the Persecuted Church

The time to act is now. Christians are suffering for their faith, and they need your prayers and support:
